Village rugs

In almost every village in rug production is taking place, each and every village having their own characteristics. Often the pile is made of wool, and the base is cotton.

Village rugs are often sold under the name of the region where they where made. One example are Hamadan rugs, which are knotted in several thousand different villages in the region. Connoisseurs can recognize from where in the Hamadan region the rugs are from.
It is amongst the village rugs you find the greatest variations in colours and patterns.

Well-known village rugs are Ardebil, Bachtyar and Meshad. Village rugs have app 200.000 to 300.000 knots per m2
