Balutch
is a tribe from the regions of eastern Iran and the borders to
Afghanistan and Pakistan. Balutch has a long history living as
nomads, but in these days a majority has settled in villages.
Traditionally the rugs feature a great variety of designs with
uniform colouring. Typical for these rugs are the broadside borders,
often made from goathair (shirazi). The primary designs used are
geometric symbols or stylized flowers. Dark colour shades as red
to blue-red or brown-red with contrasting dark blue/black/brown
are dominating, Beige and camel are used more rarely. Prayer motivs
and Güll motifs similar to turkmenistan designs are relative
common. The pile is wool and sometimes goathair, the warp and
weft is wool or cotton.
