Nain

The caracteristic blue and white fine flowerpatterns with the central medallion and all-over design, is the traditionally design from the wide region of the Nain province in the central Iran. When Shahen of Iran in may 1959 visited the King and Queen of Denmark, he brought as a gift a georgeous Nain-rug in the size 216x319 cm handknotted with over 1 million knots pr. m2. The rug is created at the famous Artschool in Isfahan. The pile is wool, but the device of the Shahen has been woven into the border. This is by the way a fine eksample to show that the Persian rugs are named after the design, regardless the geographic placement of the producing.
The Nain-rugs is handknotted in the following three qualities/ knot density:

  • Nain Kashmar.
    200.000-250.000 knots pr. m2
  • Nain Fine m. Silke.
    400.000-450.000 knots pr. m2
  • Nain Ekstra Fine m. Silke.
    850.000-1.000.000 knots pr. m2

Materials used in Nain Kashmar is wool and mercerised cotton. Mercerising is a treatment of the cotton that smoothens the cotton. The result is a very soft and shiny quality.

Materials used in Nain Fine and Ekstra Fine is wool as pile and cotton as weft.
