In the city of Sarough southwest of the capital Teheran, the Sarough rug is handknotted. Usually these rugs is woven with a beautyful shinning wool. With the tight regular knottings the rugs belogs to the strongest of the Persians. The knot used is Senneh and the weft is cotton. The pile is wool and as a groundcolour red or blue, more rarely Ivorycreme is used. The motifs are rich ornamented reminding very much of Kirman eller Keshanrugs.

The Sarough Sherkat rugs is a projekt of Saroughproduction, controlled and surported by the Iranian government.
